On October 7th and 20th of this school year the Military Recruiters showed up on the Casa Grande Campus. The first time the date of the protest was spread by word of mouth, the second time Nate passed out fliers to get the word around. We chanted, made signs, danced, made peace sign armbands, and talked to the recruiters. Both times we have had a great turn-out! If there is a next time, we will be bigger....

On October 18, the College Board released its two annual reports on the rising expense of higher education in the US. Trends in Student Aid is based on data from the 2004-2005 academic year, while Trends in College Pricing includes data from this year. Both reports reveal that the cost of postsecondary education in the US continues to outstrip inflation and lower-income students are being shut out of universities as a result....

Prop 76 would end the guarantees of minimum school funding for K-14 provided by Prop 98, and allow the Governor to declare a state of financial emergency. That declaration would allow him to amend the state budget as he saw fit It would limit state spending increases to a set percentage, and would authorize a massive reallocation of funding for education that is now guaranteed whenever the General Fund is in surplus....
