Environmentalists have prevailed in a huge and complex case that challenged the tenants of the Headwaters Deal, with a decision by Judge John Golden yesterday(5-19-03). Golden's ruling strikes down Pacific Lumber's Sustained Yield Plan, their Incidental Take Permits and their permits allowing alternation of streambeds and streambed crossings....

Appeal filed as trial looms in pepper spray Q-tip suit
The Headwaters Defense vs Humboldt County legal team filed an emergency appeal May 6 to try to keep the retrial in their civil rights suit in San Francisco rather than Eureka, where it is set to begin next Monday, May 12. 2003. The appeal also seeks to remove U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker from the case for bias....

4-18-03: Two tree sitters in Freshwater California were taken out of 1000 year old tree, "Jezebel," today, by climbers hired by
Maxxam/Pacific Lumber Co. The tree, which Pacific Lumber contracted logger (of Steve Wills Trucking Co.), was then cut, adding to the casualties of ancient Redwood trees which used to cover Freshwater, holding up steep hillsides and preventing floods, which are now so common....
