Alameda Cty Board of Supes Doesn't Follow Laws About Medical Center
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors are either unwilling or unable to ensure the
competent administration of Measure "A" funds. In fact the Board of Supervisors are
almost entirely occupied thinking up new ways to take funds away from the Medical
Center and put them back in the county's pocket (a 1.7 million dollar rent increase
being the most recent example)....

Since 1945, various UC Berkeley faculty members have used this land as a site for research in biological control, the practice of controlling pest populations by creating a system with stable populations of natural enemies. In the past ten years the Gill Tract has, at times, been utilized as an urban farm, employing at-risk youth and providing food for local non-profits and community members. Currently, UCB faculty members use the Gill Tract for agricultural-related research....

Latino Janitors lose out by Sybase subcontracting
Ten of 15 janitors were fired after Sybase, Inc., based in Dublin, contracted Excel Building Services, a non-union company, for its janitorial services. Sybase is one of the largest independent software vendors in the world. Some business journals designate Sybase as one of the best places to work in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
When the Sybase janitors’ health insurance went up, Sybase dumped its union janitors. Hourly pay is $9.16 p/h. The janitors are losing all they have struggled...
