New threats against Detroit teachers as strike begins
As thousands of Detroit teachers manned picket lines in the first day of their strike against the school district’s demands for wage cuts and other concessions, state and local Democratic Party politicians denounced the walkout and demanded they return to work prior to the scheduled beginning of classes on September 5. At the same time, school officials said they would apply for a court order to end the strike....

Detroit public school workers face new concessions threat
The Detroit Public School district is threatening a new round of mass layoffs unless teachers and other school employees accept $105 million in concessions from wages and benefits to offset a projected budget shortfall for the 2006-2007 school year. Teachers are expected to bear the brunt of the concessions, and are being asked to give up $89 million in cuts from wages, medical benefits and changes in work rules....

SJSU Medpot: Stop the Cal State Universities from Arresting Medical Marijuana Patients
First a disabled homeless medical marijuana patient was rousted at 2:30am. She was cited under Education Code 89031 for sleeping! Much worse to us, her medical marijuana was siezed despite her new card and doctor's note. When I looked into it and protested, I was arrested and held (handcuffed) for ninety minutes by SJSU PD. Stop the ignorance, protest the intolerance!...
