Ignacio Chapela held a press conference today to announce his lawsuit
related to denial of tenure with the Environmental Science, Policy and
Management Department at UC Berkeley. On the steps of Hilgard Hall

he still holds lab space, Chapela and his lawyer Dan Siegel, who is

for his participation in the UC Berkeley Free Speech movement in the

Thousands of UCB staff and students as well as many labor activists took part in an all day strike and picket in Berkeley. The rally reached its largest point around 4PM when Robert J. Birgeneau was sworn in as chancellor. Birgeneau eventually came outside and addressed the crowd. (more reports and details will be posted shortly)...

Tent University Santa Cruz (TUSC) is an experiment in radical education reform to take place at UC Santa Cruz, April 18-22. The university and the police want to shut it down.
