US press takes umbrage at Amnesty‘s ”gulag” charge
The American establishment press has reacted to the human rights report issued by Amnesty International with a combination of indignation and verbal mudslinging. The editorial boards of the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post have taken particular offense at the statement by Amnesty International’s secretary general calling the US-run prison camp in Guantánamo Bay “the gulag of our times.”...

Dying in Iraq is not a career choice
Military recruiting has to be one of the most demanding and stressful jobs in America today. Try as they may, the 7,500 military recruiters are hard-pressed to sign up even two-thirds of the 80,000 quota they have been given this year by the Defense Department to meet the demands of the current and planned operations....

“I think the City Council and Mayor (Tom) Potter are so courageous,” said Alan Graf, a National Lawyer’s Guild lawyer who serves as interim director of the Portland-based Northwest Center for Constitutional Rights (NCCR)....

The agreement by 14 US senators Monday to stave off a full-scale battle over the filibuster of Bush judicial nominations is a textbook illustration of how spinelessness and lack of principle on the part of the Democratic Party prop up the Bush administration....

The US Military's discrimination against homosexuality, the so-called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, is in direct conflict with SOU's anti-dicrimination policy. The resolution was carried 8 votes to 2.
Steve Ryan, student senator and sponsor of the resolution said of its passage, "SOU's Student Government is taking a proactive role in p...
