Longtime housing and queer rights activist Tommi Avicolli Mecca noticed that residents of the Tenderloin don’t often get access to theater. So he decided to take put on his new play to the neighborhood. This weekend, when “The Aching in God’s Heart”—written by Avicolli Mecca and performed by four activists—opens at Theatre St. Boniface, he hopes that the low-income and immigrant communities he advocates for on a daily basis will be well-represented....

Black Cuisine celebrated its 25th Anniversay in the Bayview and drew a good crowd both from the neighborhood and far off places. With the dawn of an event such as the recent power grab by SF Redevelopment it is the culture of the neighborhood that one has to be aware of. SFRA are greedy and culture really does not matter to these scumbags. What matters to them is money and they will do anything to grab land and make money. Even destroy a good culture....

A New York theater company is coming under criticism for backing out of an agreement to stage a play based on the life of U.S. peace activist Rachel Corrie. The play’s producers are calling the decision censorship. Corrie was killed in Gaza nearly three years ago when she stood in front of an Israeli bulldozer set to demolish a Palestinian home.
