A peace agreement with the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is expected early this year, Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. disclosed yesterday. "A final peace agreement with the MILF would be signed by March or April," Esperon told a press conference held at the AFP Eastern Mindanao Command headquarters here. The contentious issues affecting the peace negotiations, particularly disputes over ancestral domain, are now being discussed by both panels, said Esperon, wh...

Applying to law school is not for the weak of heart...I find myself laboring through the applications' hard questions. These are big "life" questions, and trying to answer them, really does take one on a sort of inner spiritual journey. At this point, I would even recommend just trying to complete a law school application, for your own spiritual clarity, if you are an activist! To get more clarity and direction, a Raja Yoga, of sorts......

The recent execution of Angel Nieves Diaz in Jacksonville, Florida has outraged opponents of capital punishment nationwide due to the unusual length of time of the procedure and the apparent pain and suffering Angel Diaz appeared to experience. Stewart Alexander, with the Peace and Freedom Party, says, “The whole process of capital punishment is flawed and the PFP wants federal legislation to band capital punishment in all 50 states; too many mistakes have been made, it’s cruel and inhumane.”...

In Long Beach, Calif., a high-profile hate crimes trial is spotlighting the need for juvenile justice reform. Hippies get mad at my anarchist tendencies. Anarchists get angry at my feminist leanings. The feminists are angered by my class politics...I learned long ago that you cannot please everyone and that one clique is too restrictive for my character. And it appears the alternative to clique mentality is individualism. I would prefer to be an independent agent, moving freely where my interests lead me, than to restrict myself to one prescribed clique and its agenda. And I have yet to find one cliq...

On November 24th, 2006, I traveled to the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California, to observe and document how people were spending their time on “the busiest shopping day of the year,” the day after Thanksgiving. To narrow down the focus of my documentary, I decided to use photos of people and the bag or bags that they were carrying. The bag a person carries can lead to many assumptions about the person carrying the bag. In some cases, the owner of the bag may not be the person who ...
