Come by and support the tree sitters! (UCSC Science hill)
Come show your support for the tree sitters currently occupying redwoods at UCSC in opposition to the LRDP and its first project, the biomedical facility.
Come hang out and discuss the LRDP and get involved.
If you'd like, just bring by some snacks, water, non perishable foods, support letters anytime. Also, Tarps, Raingear and non perishable food donations would be of great help, bring 'em by if you got 'em....

Early Wednesday morning, activists opposed to UCSC's Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) launched a tree-sit in redwoods near Science Hill. UCSC plans to develop the occupied site into a new Biomedical Sciences Facility....

Police Attack Students Protesting UCSC Development Plan
BREAKING NEWS - Students protesting UC Santa Cruz's long-range development plan are under attack by police. At least a dozen students were pepper-sprayed, and police with "less than lethal" weapons are filling the campus. Two tree-sits on the site of proposed new development have been cordoned off by police, and at least one tree-sit supporter has been arrested....

Imagine my surprise when I hop of the bus this morning to police cordoning off the parking lot directly outside the Physical Sciences Building ..... road rage in the parking lot??? It's not even 8 in the morning I think.... but NO it's better than that .... we have 2 platforms about 4 stories high in the red woods - activists protesting the LRDP!

Waiting for Tony Madrigal
On Sunday afternoon Councilmember Madrigal set up a table on Pacific Avenue in front of O'Neill's sports shop and began distributing gauze masks as protection against the LBAM Checkmate spraying (a publicity device, presumably rather than real protection).
When I asked him whether he'd support emergency shelter measures to protect the homeless during the nighttime spraying, he was evasive and seemed uncomfortable. Rowland Morin forwarded me their e-mail exchange below....
