Brooklynites Deserve Better: Cleaning Up Exxon's Greenpoint Oil Spill
You have to wonder why it has taken so long. It happened over 57 years ago when Exxon Mobil leaked at least 17 million gallons of oil in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint. The 55-acre spill, which is estimated to have been larger than the Exxon Valdez catastrophe, went undiscovered until the late 1970s. Since then little has been done to hold the guilty parties accountable. But on February 8, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo finally filed notices of intent to sue Exxon Mobil...

Part 3: John Locke, Yellowstone, and the Dogma of the Right to Private Property: Against t
Part 3: Against the right to private property. This series of essays has looked at connecting John Locke's theories of property rights to the considerations that founded Yellowstone National Park as well as to the issues of today. Previous parts explored that connection and looked. In this part, a right to property is denied; that view is defended. The final part will explore what to do in Yellowstone today in a world that is falsely built on property rights, rights which have no rational...

Ethanol: World’s grain for food or profit?
The grain to fill a 25-gallon SUV tank with ethanol could feed a person for a year. The diversion of grains for the world’s 800 million cars will increase the price and decrease the production of food to feed the 2 billion poorest people of the world who spend at least half their income on food, according to the Earth Policy Institute. Thus, endangerment of the world’s food supply is one addition to the list of serious threats to our world stemming from the growing energy crisis....

Jeff Luers' sentence REVERSED (good news)
The Court of Appeals just unanimously ruled that Jeff's case will be reversed and remanded back to the Circuit Court for resentencing as a result of Judge Velure's errors in imposing the original draconian sentence.
