Care With Facts
The New England Journal of Medicine is peeved at Supervisor Gavin
Newsom. The San Francisco politician's "Care Not Cash" campaign has
been using the prestigious journal's logo on its literature, implying
that journal articles uphold Newsom's central claim -- that reducing
General Assistance cash benefits to homeless people will reduce drug
use. "We do not permit anyone to use our logo," says a spokeswoman
for the Journal. "We have given the matter over to our legal
department to...

Kucinich & Progressive Dems Trying to Build Opposition To War
Kucinich said numerous Democrats were emboldened by Gore's speech on Monday, in which he blasted Bush's Iraq policy and declared it would "severely damage" the broader war on terrorism and undermine U.S. credibility. They were also delighted with Carter's comments that Bush's policy of using preemptive military action is a "radical departure" from U.S. policy. Kucinich has phoned both men to request their help in building opposition to Bush's resolution....

Ten Reasons to be Glad Al Gore Isn’t President
ELECTION 2000 may now seem long ago, but it's worth taking a moment to recall with joyful relief the butterfly ballot, the Electoral College, and the landmark Supreme Court decision in Bush v. Gore. For without these godsends, would-be president Al Gore wouldn't merely be delivering asinine speeches to the Commonwealth Club of California, he would be making asinine policy in the White House....

Robert Fisk: The dishonesty of this so-called dossier
The Blair "dossier" tells us that, despite sanctions, Saddam was able to go on building weapons of mass destruction. All that nonsense about dual-use technology, the ban on children's pencils – because lead could have a military use – and our refusal to allow Iraq to import equipment to restore the water-treatment plants that we bombed in the Gulf War, was a sham....

Al Qaeda Camp in Oregon
