Legislation Calling for a Water Council to be Released
by Dan Bacher
Language for water bill legislation in the California Legislature will finally be released tomorrow, July 31, 2009, according to Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, campaign director of Restore the Delta. Rather than authorizing a canal directly, the proposed legislation will authorize a "water council" that will try to bypass public input in order to build the canal through the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP).

Below is some information in regards to the republican budget deal that the sell-out democrats supported... Much of the details are from the Western Center on Law and Poverty, and much directly from the governors website. The democrats are still trying to conceal what they actually voted for, and so far it's difficult to confirm what was actually in the budget agreements by the time all the votes took place. Regardless, the democrats joined the republicans to screw the majority of California...

Bill Jennings, executive director of the California Sportfishing Protection Alliance (CSPA), has written an excellent summary of the Contra Costa Water District's analysis of the proposed peripheral canal. "The CCWD has reached the same conclusions as CSPA's analysis revealed: A Peripheral Canal is a dysfunctional unworkable scheme that will exacerbate existing conditions," said Jennings.

Monday, July 20, 2009 : As in a variety of politically contentious arenas, approaches to water supply range from progressive to conservative. The former side demands water conservation and free-flowing rivers, while the latter wants more dams and limitless development. Odd, then, that one of the most liberal areas of California would find itself teetering on the edge of the far right of this spectrum. East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) wants an expensive, destructive dam expansion in...
