Pacifica Radio currently faces its most serious organizational and financial crisis in years. Executive Director Nicole Sawaya has resigned effective in early October, and the network is considering budget cuts of more than $900,000. Pacifica is also grappling with the need for multiple bylaw amendments and the high cost of lawsuits. The National Board is split, the Human Resources Director has left, a line of credit has been secured to cover recent expenses, and another loan is being sought....

KPFA management just threw fuel on the fire with it new police state rules, effective Sept 10, 2008, after its calling of the police to viciously beat up, hot tie and arrest a long time programmer who made a phone call for a ride on 8/20/08. You can hear more on SF Labor Cable on 9/12/08 and protest at the Local Station Board meeting on 9/13/08....

Just as Google unveiled a new, "improved" privacy policy, a sworn affidavit entitled "Statement of Probable Cause" was released showing that the cooperation of Google and Sonic.net with UC Police led, in part, to last month's raid on the Long Haul Infoshop. We took this opportunity to ask Google some questions about its privacy policy and how much of its users' data is really anonymized....

KPFA, unlike much of the broadcast media, covered the convention by allowing the convention speakers to speak and not doing lots of aimless interviews and adding mostly pithy and relevant comments. God bless Amy Goodman, Larry Bensky, and KPFA. They are a national treasure we can enjoy as a local radio station....
