Pilar Schiavo is Supervisor Ammiano's legislative aide in charge of the proposed SF Noise Ordinance. She argues that the new ordinance is not worse than the present noise ordinance. I responded that both ordinances unreasonably restrict protest groups and labor picketing using 10 watt bullhorns. Fortunately, the present ordinance is not being enforced. Will the police enforce the new ordinance? We don't know. If we are going to set a noise level limit for First Amendment activities, why not m...

Several people have called me expressing their concerns about this new SF Noise Ordinance, scheduled for final approval next Tuesday November 18. This ordinance will make virtually every protest using a bullhorn illegal in San Francisco. That leaves it up to the police to decide whether or not to enforce the law.
I do not think any public comment will be allowed at this meeting, so the only thing we can do now is call and write the Supervisors....

Peter Camejo helped found the California Green Party in 1991 and ran three times for governor of California. He also ran as independent Ralph Nader's vice presidential running mate in the 2004 presidential election in which President Bush won a second term. The city of San Francisco is planning to amend their Noise Ordinance in such a way as to severely restrict protests and picketing by unions and protest groups using bullhorns. The SF Board of Supervisors approved this ordinance on first reading on Tues. Nov. 4. The vote was 9-2. Final approval of the ordinance is scheduled for Tues. Nov. 18. This is our last chance to stop this dangerous ordinance from becoming law.
Please contact the Board of Supervisors to let them know about your oppositio...
