“We know that there are people who are undocumented. And what are they doing? They are picking our fruits when it is cold. They care for our children. They clean our offices at night. They use the sweat of their labor for this country.” -Dolores Huerta at yesterday’s kickoff for the week of action...

Sentinel has no online coverage of Friday's March for Immigrant Rights in Santa Cruz
I am not not publishing this to surprise people. The Santa Cruz Sentinel has a long history of racism in Santa Cruz. The purpose of this post is to point out once again that the Sentinel works against any sense of social justice.
The Sentinel has no online coverage of last Friday's (3-17-06) march and rally for immigrant rights in Santa Cruz.

Speakers from Santa Cruz Rally Against HR 4437 (audio/mpeg 2.7MB)
About 500 people rallied at the Santa Cruz County Building, before a march to Beach Flats Park, to express outrage against HR 4437; one of many anti-immigrant bills making its way through Congress. HR 4437 would make it a felony offense to be in the U.S. without proper documentation. This would push undocumented immigrants further underground, and increase the potential for exploitation by employers. This bill would also criminalize nurses, teachers, clergy, social workers, and anyone else wh...

Borders work to divide human kind. The United States government has encouraged this division by building three tangible barriers in the form of fences over the last decade. H.R.4337 will only criminalizes immigrants but it also takes away their human rights. The DREAM Act will allow respite from HR 4437 as a reward for military service....
