KPFA’s recent Local Station Board (LSB) election was not the example of media democracy it was designed to be. This LSB election:...

KPFA Interim Program Director Sasha Lilley's hand picked host for replacing Larry Bensky is
now in a contest for who is telling the truth about the firing of Peter Laufer. Lilley who supported the derecognition of the unpaid staff apparently doesn't have much time for
the staff at the station. Laufer was let go without notice and in a phone call while he was
in New York. So much for station integrity. Concerned Listeners should be concerned about how one of their "leaders" treats the staff...

When Republicans cheat to get their candidates elected, we do our best to expose the violations and make noise. But what about when we see our fellow progressives cheating? That's the dilemma facing KPFA listener-activists after the recent election for the board of directors....

Friday, November 30, 2007 : Sister Bernie Galvin of Religious Witness for Homeless People didn’t expect her meeting with the San Francisco Chronicle’s Editorial Board to become another C.W. Nevius hit-piece. But that’s what happened on the front page of yesterday’s Bay Area edition – as the ex-sports writer used the meeting with Galvin and other religious leaders as an excuse to continue peddling his mean-spirited attacks....

The Pacifica national election supervisor Casey Peters has banned Larry Bensky from the airwaves until his term ends in 2008. Bensky's violation of using KFPA equipment/lists to support the Concerned Listeners Group is only one of many examples by the management and entrenched staff who support management and used the stations resources to support the candidates of Concerned Listeners CL. The question now is whether CL supporter and interim manager Lemlme Rijio will follow the order or ignore...

Wednesday, November 21, 2007 : For many, Thanksgiving marks the start of the Christmas shopping season. At the San Francisco Chronicle, turkey day means that the paper ceases drumming up public hostility toward homeless persons and starts reporting on the poor with dignity as part of its Season of Sharing Program. The pattern is repeated each year....

Friday, November 16, 2007 : Since launching Beyond Chron in April 2004, I typically get positive feedback when bashing Republicans, corporate interests or Mayor Newsom, but often disagreement and even outright hostility for questioning progressive persons or causes. Many appear to reject the notion that progressives benefit from open debate around tactics or strategies, and believe Beyond Chron should consistently boost activists even when they make mistakes or are pursuing a questionable cou...

In lieu of any substantive discussion of how KPFA can better fulfill its mission, they engage in name-calling (repeatedly referring to myself and their opponents as “the dismantlers"), launch petty attacks on the character of KPFA staff and boardmembers (“They only want your money, not your thoughts and input on how to improve the station”), and propose a paranoid conspiracy theory that puts me at the center of a plot to destroy KPFA’s elected board....

On the weekly Questioning War- Organizing Resistance Radio Show, David Mathison and Eduardo Cohen will be discussing how the media sells war and how we need to BE THE MEDIA.
