There are candidates running for the board who honor their responsibilities to the organization. They appreciate the importance of fundraising for the organization. They want to be board members to help staff and management keep Pacifica’s vital news, music, arts and information viable and sustainable. They look forward to promoting and marketing KPFA to new audiences. In short, they want to be responsible members of a serious non-profit board....

We should remember that ENACTMENT of peaceful conflict is a founding purpose of Pacifica; we must learn to bring forth and articulate what underlies our antagonisms in order to resolve them in a way that will benefit all of us....

IN 2004 the KPFA LSB passed a Resolution establishing a Program Council with authority to make programming changes. The LSB also passed a Resolution supporting the Program Council's moving Democracy Now! to prime time 7-8am and the Morning Show to 8-10am. The Democracy Now! Time change was stonewalled by the staff and allies that became the Concerned Listeners who ignore these Resolutions and have allowed their management allies to eliminate the Program Council....

This may seem like a little inside baseball, but bear with me, because it will directly affect some of your favorite blogs.
Here at the Blend we have inboxes overflowing with emails asking us to cover this story or that event -- from advocacy organizations, tips from readers, PR firms, and the news media. It's pretty clear that the equality rights movement is highly dependent on blogs and citizen journalism to analyze, report and advocate in...

Carol Spooner's finger-wagging review of the current state of Planet Pacifica ignores the crushing impact of the new 122-member National Board structure. Top-heavy, hugely expensive, conflict-ridden and racially polarized, this five-year old Board system was instituted to assure greater democracy and prevent the corporatization of Pacifica.
But instead of protecting Pacifica, the new governance structure is destroying Pacifica. Itʼs bred factionalism, dysfunction, self-dealing, a plethora o...

As a longstanding member of the KPFA unpaid staff, I am quite a bit puzzled and more than a bit annoyed by how the unpaid staff are being used as an issue in the current KPFA Local Station Board elections. In fact, I’m down right aggravated to see how one slate, the Independents for Community Radio, is speaking in the name of us unpaid staff at the station. Well, let me tell you, they don’t speak for me....

Bernard White, dismissed Program Director of Pacifica station WBAI (99.5 FM, NYC) has launched a nationwide campaign to get his job back, alleging that his firing is part of a racial purge throughout Pacifica (see “Kicking Pacifica When It's Down” at http://www.takeforwardwbai.org/pacificakickingdown.html). Alternative analyses point to incompetence resulting in a 6-year downtrend in listeners, and fiscal mismanagement which may include not just incompetence but embezzlement....

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 : It's time to get real about the Republican distraction du jour - the great ACORN controversy. The bottom line is this: if the same standard used to prevent ACORN from receiving federal contracts were applied to many large corporations -- Boeing, financial institutions like AIG and CitiCorp, not to speak of private military contractors like Blackwater -- they would all have been barred as federal contractors long ago....
