Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi has introduced a resolution urging the
Department of Public Health to abandon the state's Medical Marijuana
Identification Card program and reinstate the local program....

The Sacramento, Calif., City Council on Tuesday
voted 8-0 to establish a needle-exchange program in
the city in an effort to reduce the spread of HIV and
other bloodborne diseases among injection drug users,
the Sacramento Bee reports....

A moratorium of up to one year on new medical marijuana dispensaries
was endorsed Tuesday by a City Council committee, but the panel wants
to see an ordinance drafted before sending it to the full council for
consideration....

Our other stories this week show the great
potential of hemp, from food to fiber ? but
mostly across the rest of the globe with the U.S. just
being a consumer, not a producer. We continue to
work on getting quality legislation introduced and
passed, and things are surely progressing....

Dustin Costa was active in his community and a long-time patient before
being arrested in 2004 on state charges. His case was eventually turned
over to the feds and is now the first medical marijuana patient to be
convicted at trial since the U.S. Supreme Court made its landmark
ruling, Gonzales v. Raich, in June 2005....

What was different in Los Angeles this time was the remarkable grassroots and
media reaction to the raids...our spokespeople were on the
news statewide making sure these raids were reported from the patients’
perspective, not from the DEA’s....

dispensaries)," said Ryan Michaels, one of the volunteers keeping
CannaHelp open. "I want them to take a stand."
CannaHelp is one of two Coachella Valley dispensaries that have closed
or stopped selling medical marijuana in the past week....
