More than half of all life on Earth likely lies within deep geological strata. That much biomass means that below-ground organisms almost certainly play a role in the global carbon cycle and may also very likely participate in ways we don't yet understand in regulating the Earth's climate system. This underground microflora consists of bacteria, fungal filaments, and an ancient domain of life called Archaea. All these need to be killed off during fracking operations....

This is a data rich article. How did it ever get so out of control? Target logistics, instant shopping centers, food, entertainment, and instant towns. Service infrastructure demands include fuel, toilets, septic systems, drinking water, showers... all delivered by truck. And there's little to no regulation. The carbon footprint for 'fracking' is so huge, how can it be a 'clean' fuel?...

The decision last week by the BLM to support the SNWA pipeline shows their disregard for science and inability to protect species that are under their watch. The developers who plan projects like Coyote Springs 50 miles north of Las Vegas are dependent upon this pipeline, NOT Las Vegas. Just more hype so that some developers (Whittemore/Seeno/etc...) can profit at the expense of the desert spring ecosystems in Snake and Spring Valleys. There isn't enough water in these aquifers to support the...

December 12, 2012.
Dozens of protesters in hazmat suits carrying barrels labeled “Warning: Toxic Fracking Fluid” rallied outside a federal auction Wednesday morning against plans to lease more than 17,000 acres of California public land to oil companies for drilling and fracking. The Bureau of Land Management auction would open public land in three counties — Monterey, San Benito and Fresno — for oil drilling and fracking. Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is a highly polluting form of ...
