Walk for life/Hot Rods 
There is a predictable yearly cycle of events that happens around the boardwalk in Santa Cruz - lots of different bicycle and running road races, the marching band convention, and various music and holiday events. Two weeks after the Sentinel triathlon comes the Saturday with the Walk for Life walkathon, and Hot Rods at the Beach, sponsored by the local police department....

Vandals damage queer lit. at Bookshop Santa Cruz Vandals apparently trying to make a statement against gay lifestyles damaged a half-dozen books that deal with queer topics, stole five others and peppered a section of Bookshop Santa Cruz with religious pamphlets during the past month....

Ban on Public Assemblies in Public Parking Lots at City Council Next Tuesday Vice-Mayor Ryan Coonerty's latest attack on the Constitution is a new local law. It will expand a bad law passed last year to ban lingering in a city parking garage. Coonerty's expansion will ban all those not parking a car or auto from all downtown city parking garages and now all downtown city parking lots. Trash Orchestra Parades to Mime Troupe's Making a Killing 
On September 23rd, the Santa Cruz Trash Orchestra led a noisy parade to the San Francisco Mime Troupe performance of Making a Killing, Building a New Iraq. In the style of a cacerolazo, parade-goers beat on makeshift drums and tambourines while marching as a metallic cacophony from Laurel Street up Pacific Avenue and across the river to San Lorenzo Park.
