Protesters Demand Banks Stop Financing Desecration of the Earth 
On October 23rd protesters in Palo Alto demanded that banks stop financing human rights abuses, repression of indigenous rights, and desecration of the earth. There was much discussion in the crowd about closing bank accounts from the Big Banks and depositing money in credit unions instead. In addition to indigenous speakers, a representative from the Public Bank of Oakland spoke about the possibility of a new kind of banking.

Santa Clara Valley Water District conditionally approves California WaterFix 
The Santa Clara Valley Water District Board approved the resolution in spite of evidence provided by experts exposing the project’s flaws. Deirdre Des Jardins of California Water Research, who conducted an independent review of the science and engineering behind this project, told the board there have been “gross misrepresentations” about this project that should have give the District pause in supporting it.

Urban Firestorm Devastation Santa Rosa California 
On October 8, 2017 between the hours of 10pm and midnight the Diablo Winds blew into Santa Rosa California. The result was 5 wind driven fires. Metropolitan Water District Approves Delta Tunnels Funding 
Delta Tunnels opponents said they were disappointed with the vote, although not surprised. They vowed to keep fighting the project, one that they say will create no new water while raising water rates and causing great harm to imperiled Sacramento River Chinook salmon, Delta smelt and other fish species.

Groups sue CDFW over permit to kill endangered salmon in Delta Tunnels 
This suit is the first to challenge CDFW’s “take” permit for the tunnel operations.
