With a new KPFA Local Station Board election coming up I plan on reviewing all the candidates and make recommendations. I will try to give the voters a view from the inside and expose those that have been deceptive and dishonest in their statements, speeches and practices. My guidelines will not be slates or allies but principles: truth, honesty, transparency, democratic practices v. power politics, concern for the Mission v. individualism....

The Pacifica-KPFA management team are targeting the only show on the continent of Africa produced by Walter Turner which is called Africa Today. The Voices For Justice Radio slate opposes the targeting of such programs and calls on all candidates in the election to take a stand against the Pacifica and KPFA management for their corporatization of the station and network. The drive at KPFA and Pacifica management is to rely on Nielson ratings to determine programming and this runs counter the ...

The appointed interim manager of KPFA Ahmad Anderson is targeting low income employees at KPFA threatening the weekend news while keeping workers with less seniority who are supporters of management. The KPFA board majority run by ICR Independents for Community Radio have been silent about this attack on the KPFA board and on the Pacifica PNB. They have been supported by the Concerned Listeners CL group who also supports these attacks....

Dhasa: The newly elected British Conservative Government has been heavily criticized by the Chinese media for its about-turn change in attitude on the issue of Tibet. British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, raised his concerns over human rights abuses targeted at the Tibetan population at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, in Beijing on 14th July. Chinese newspaper China Daily have warned that ‘raising the Tibet issue to upset the Chinese government is a lose-lose strategy...

The merger of KPFA and KPFK news has limited the amount of local community news on both stations from each area. This merged operation must be changed with a return to a one hour locally produced show on both stations. With population of over 10 million in each region it is critical that there be more local an regional community news and not a homogenization of the news on both stations....

On Monday (07/05/10), KPFA programmer and former interim-Program Director Sasha Lilley hosted author Iain A. Boal on KPFA's "Against The Grain" (ATG). A petition campaign to demand the end of the merged evening news program between KPFA and KPFK has begun. The merger of the two stations evening news has meant a reduction of local community news in both regions. The need to have more local and community news and information on KPFA and KPFB is critical....

POOR Magazine has done SO much for poor communities, locally and globally since 1996. Unfortunately, POOR Magazine has always been hanging on a very thin piece of thread, in that it does not have funding, whatsoever. The reason being, we refuse to be controlled by those who dictate the voices of the poor. For the past year, that thread is threatening to break, and unless we get serious funding soon to even keep our doors open, POOR will in fact cease to exist....
