The wildcat strike begun by University of California Santa Cruz graduate students early last week has now entered a critical stage. The striking students who work as graduate and teaching assistants had pledged to withhold submitting final grades for the Fall quarter, until the administration met their demand for an above-board cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of $1,400. Hundreds of students and faculty protested at the San Francisco Community College Board of Trustees meeting against the 300 class cuts by CCSF chancellor Mark Rocha. The board had previously voted give to big raises to executives at the community college. The cuts will also close down the senior class program....

Beginning Monday, a group of graduate students at the University of California, Santa Cruz began a wildcat strike demanding a cost-of-living wage increase. The graduate students are demanding an end to their precarious financial situation, which many students report results in regularly skipping meals, spending some 50-80 percent of their income on housing in one of the most expensive rental markets in the US, and overall heightened stress levels in struggling to meet basic needs....

With both Oregan and Utah recently passing bills to allow their students to take a mental health day has caused a huge debate. First of all, what is a mental health in the first place? We should see it as a way for students to be able to take a day off from school in order to get their mind in the right place to focus on their school work.
