The National Police Accountability Project, composed of attorneys nationwide, has filed in federal appeals court in support of Standing Rock Water Protectors. The attorneys told the court that the force used against Water Protectors was "unreasonably excessive," and violated their Fourth Amendment right, which protects people from unreasonable search and seizure by the government....

The Water Protectors of Standing Rock were the focus of two court actions this week. The North Dakota Supreme Court ruled that 60,000 spy documents of TigerSwan are public records to be released. In a separate court action, Water Protectors injured by rubber bullets and projectiles fired by law enforcement filed an appeal of a class-action civil rights lawsuit. California State Assembly Bill 481 requires local jurisdictions to adopt a military equipment use policy (via ordinance) prior to purchasing, raising funds for, or acquiring military equipment. The Santa Cruz City Council will craft its military equipment use policy during the evening session of the April 26 meeting. As part of the process, the Santa Cruz Police Department has supplied the council with its current military equipment inventory. (see list below)....
