text4/24 Berkeley Forum:The Crisis At Pacifica and Building & Rebuilding The Pacifica Network by KPFA Voices For Justice
Pacifica is now threatened with a decline in listeners, a growing financial crisis and also with a management team which wants to put on national programmers without the input of producers around the network. This forum will have voices from many of the stations nationally and discuss what is happening in the network and what has to be done to make the Pacifica network relevant to the people of this country. This forum takes place at the same time of a Pacifica National Board meeting which wi...

by Hans Bennett
I initiated a correspondence with George Jackson in early 1971, and months later, got a one-hour visit in the holding cell of San Quentin. I’ve met no one before or since more dedicated to revolutionary change....George was one of the three “Soledad Brothers,” whose story began on January 13, 1970 when a tower guard at Soledad State Prison shot and killed three Black captives on the yard, leaving them unattended to bleed to death....

imageChanges at the Chron: Ding, dong, the witch is dead; and "we care about tenants"
120_debrasaunders_firedbychron.jpg
by BeyondChron
So, it looks like the San Francisco Chronicle has finally given the boot to frothing, right-wing hatemonger Debra Saunders. Maybe we'll get really lucky and Van Jones or someone else can replace the trite Chip Johnson. And the Chron apparently suddenly decided that tenants matter as well, and just maybe Latinos and Asian Bay Area residents. The report here that the Chron is actually going to put the following words in their masthead just seems like a joke at this point: “We Care About Ten...

audioThe Passing of the Papers (audio/mpeg 2.1MB) by Mumia Abu-Jamal
In a time of war, when readers needed their services most, many papers simply took a dive, and served the interests of power, rather than the needs of the people. Most papers sold the president's line because they feared that they would be seen as disloyal in wartime, and lose subscribers....

textThe Chronicle’s Fetish with Republicans by Randy Shaw via Beyond Chron
Tuesday, March 17, 2009 : If you want to know why the SF Chronicle is going under, look at its current obsession with the GOP gubernatorial primary – and the unwarranted front-page coverage it receives. In a deep blue state like California, no Republican (save for a Hollywood action hero) can be elected Governor – making its June 2010 primary the Golden State equivalent of winning a gag prize....
