"Save KPFA" is the new incarnation of the "Concerned Listeners" slate, and after a dismal record of actions and non-action destructive to KPFA, is appealing to its listener base to continue on its obstructive/destructive course!
This letter by Akio Tanaka, rep to the Local Station Board and ICR member, urges progressive listeners to join KPFA and vote in truly pro-democratic candidates....

The "SaveKPFA"group who have been told their name is a violation of fair rules when they try to link it to the historic well-known movement have posted at the last minute a blatant link with the picture of the banner from '99....

Goldmacher, a candidate for the KPFA board of directors was busy today posting lies about Independents for Community Radio and Tracy Rosenberg, head of Media Alliance. Read her post here: http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/09/26/18659956.php

Longtime listener and activist responds to Robbie Osman's endorsement of the Independents for Community Radio slate in the KPFA Local Station Board Elections. "The thing that makes me saddest is your use of the word democracy, in contraposing those who support democracy and those who supposedly oppose it. The reason this saddens me is that it strikes me as deliberately dishonest, which was something that I did not expect from you."...

Excerpted from MediaFile - August 1999. Van Jones and his account of the real 1999 movement to save free speech radio. Jones later became the Green Jobs Advisor to the Obama Administration, until he was hounded out by right-wing forces accusing him of being a 9-11 "Truther". The ending section "Why Did We Fight?" is very germane to this election and worth reading....

If Media Alliance had not used its organizational resources on the democratization struggle of KPFA and Pacifica in 1999, there wouldn't be a KPFA today....

These two sides differing approaches to ethics in journalism can perhaps be best illustrated by a few examples involving the leader of the Independents for Community Radio slate, which is running against my slate. Tracy Rosenberg has used all candidate forums and on air spots to point out that she is executive director of Media Alliance, an organization whose stated mission is to promote “diverse, accountable and ethical media.” She has also been using Media Alliance’s e-newsletter and postal...

KPFA is, once again, holding elections for board members. And, once again, listener subscribers are wondering what’s what and who’s who....

KPFA won’t survive unless the Progressive community realizes the seriousness of the crisis and takes action to support the station. The present majority on the LSB is tied to Pacifica bureaucracy. It resists any attempt to cut Pacifica’s costs, while supporting drastic down-sizing at KPFA. An all-volunteer station would simply be a play-thing for a narrow, ever changing slice of the left. KPFA’s mission is to be a voice for the entire progressive community – we need to find that larger audien...

I've always tried to avoid writing about the internal politics of KPFA Radio. There are so many big issues that I'd rather spend my time covering - the wars, the economy, the November elections to name a few. But right now, KPFA is at a critical moment and I couldn't stay silent....

The future of KPFA radio is now in the hands of its members, who have until September 30 to cast ballots in Local Station Board elections. KPFA and Pacifica Radio have faced many “moments of truth” since progressives defeated a corporate takeover of the network in 1999, but the financial challenges and internal infighting have never been worse....
