On Thursday, Dec 11, an article from Counterforce was posted (on Indybay), which would lead readers to believe the group calling itself CounterForce organized and led the protest against Peter Thiel. In the article, CounterForce takes credit for the protest with phrases "we shut down" and "we found it opportune to direct the current energy", etc. This article contains disinformation. CounterForce did not organize the protest against Thiel, and did not lead the marchers into the Wheeler Co...

Some administrators and staff scurried out of Clark Kerr Hall as hundreds of students marched through the building; others stayed in their offices as the demonstrators walked by, pounding on the hallway walls. Many students also stopped to pound at the ...

At 2AM, Dec 2nd - the morning of the 50th anniversary of a historic Berkeley free speech protest, a protester was removed from Wheeler Hall on UC campus. Wolfie, a houseless protester who has been assisting OccupyWheeler, was asleep inside Wheeler Hall with the supplies (art material, pamphlets, snacks). Wolfie chose to sleep indoors because of the rain and to maintain the continuity of Wheeler as an open space. At 2AM, UC Berkeley police came, and removed Wolfie from the building, without...

"We really worry about the framing of research, and the pollution of its intent and findings, when it is wholly funded by those with a massive financial stake in the outcome," said Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, Executive Director of Restore the Delta. "We also find it equally disturbing that academic leaders in water spend such little time studying, developing, and creating plans for implementing water technologies that could help alleviate problems with drought. Instead, they continue to promo...

The alternative to tuition hikes proposed by Jerry Brown, the governor of California, is to turn the UCs into 3-year degree granting institutions. He wants to fire tenured faculty and lecturers and replace them with chat rooms for the profit of millionaire Stanford graduates in Silicon Valley. Online education may be a fine supplement to classroom learning, but only someone as clueless as Brown, who has never set foot in a classroom as an educator, could think that it might replace the type o...

The student fee and tuition increases touched off a series of UC-system campus demonstrations, including building occupations and event takeovers. Berkeley’s Wheeler Hall is occupied this weekend and students also held down Davis’s Mrak Hall. At UCLA demonstrators camped out one night and then took over a football rally and bonfire for the upcoming UCLA-USC football game. Riverside was in the mix too. So it was no shock Friday when a midday rally at UC Santa Cruz metamorphosed into a snake ma...
