A demonstration pulled together on very short notice drew hundreds of protesters to the SF peninsula town of Mountain View. The Raging Grannies had to work fast to organize, but their team of *Granny Brides* were prepped for action from a similar demo a few days earlier in nearby Palo Alto. So they revved up their Taxi Crate amplifier and went to town...to DOWNtown Mountain View, that is, where they met up up with like-minded folks, many of whom are also active in the immigrant rights and a...

imageWTO Chief Says Free Trade Plays Small Role in Job Losses: A Critical View

Pascal Lamy, head of the World Trade Organization, argues that free trade in a regulated environment drives economic growth worldwide. Speaking at Stanford University, he dismissed claims that free trade is responsible for job losses. Yet in every case where trade barriers have been dropped between structurally dissimilar economies, free trade has introduced profound socio-economic distortions, income inequality, and job displacement....

A pattern of racial traffic stops in Palo Alto is statistically clear.

At a *Rally Against Racial Profiling* on November 9 Goro Mitchell, East Palo Alto activist and Planning Commission member, said that 56 percent of all traffic stops for "vehicular failure", such as tail or brake lights not working, are for cars driven by African Americans or Latinos.
Two young men, one Latino and one African American, have created a T-shirt to draw attention to this injustice. Story, photos by R. Ro...
