Parental Notification of Abortions Will Hurt California's Latinos
In speaking out against Proposition 73 throughout California, we’re often asked: “Why should Latino families oppose Proposition 73?” “Aren’t they much too traditional or religious to get involved with this controversial issue?” “What difference will it make?” It’s clear that public perceptions about Latinas and Latinos continue to remain fueled by myths that bear no resemblance to the real conditions facing our community....

Right-wing initiatives dominate California special election
When California voters go to the polls November 8 for the state’s special election, they will be confronted with a series of right-wing measures. The majority of the eight initiatives on the ballot are aimed at further eroding the living standards and democratic rights of working people. None of the initiatives that voters will be asked to decide on express the concerns and needs of ordinary people in California....

Election Eve: Whiff of Election Fraud in Air; Poll Watchers Needed
Nazi Schwarzenegger is predicting an "upset victory" for his fascist initiatives, Props 73 through 78. Considering he is very unpopular, and his initiatives are either clearly losing or at the 50% disappearing edge, this can only mean that his thugs will be committing election fraud, just as his mentor, Pres Bush did, in 2000 and 2004....

Animal Rights Activists Return to KFC on Mission St. (audio/mpeg 2.5MB)
On November 5, a small group of animal rights activists demonstrated in front of the KFC on Mission St., a busy road which is also Highway 1 in Santa Cruz. The number of customers in the restaurant quickly dwindled and passing motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, KFC customers and an employee that encountered the protesters were either very supportive of the demonstration or willing to listen to and learn from the protesters.
I spoke with one activist to find out why he protesting in front ...

Proposition 73 would set up a "hit list" of California judges
California's November 8 special election ballot is led by Proposition 73, a "parental notification" initiative aimed at making it more difficult for young women to get abortions. As part of that difficulty, it creates bureaucratic red tape for abortion providers and seeks to intimidate judges, who would have the power to authorize a young woman to get an abortion without telling her parents about...

Judgment Day for the Governator
The backlash started a year ago when members of the California Nurses Association (CNA) protested Schwarzenegger at a speech he was giving supposedly to honor women's rights. The nurses were angry that he had just signed an executive order overturning a new state law designed to reduce nurse-to-patient ratios and raise the standard of patient care.
Faced with the CNA challenge, Arnold yelled out that the nurses were "a special interest who don't like me because I am always kicking the...
