The Kawaiisu Tribe of Tejon thanks Secretary Ken Salazar for “Reaffirming” the Tribe to the list of Federally Recognized Tribes in the United States according to a news release on January 3, 2012 by Indianz.com, who were the first to break the good news, and it quickly spread through Indian Country. “Reaffirming of Recognition,” means that Congress and the President of the United States recognize the Tribe through the Treaty, because the Treaty represents prior Federal Recognition....

An Occupy SF camper was arrested last Wednesday and is reported to have been charged with assault for having a sage smudge stick, which is sacred practice for indigenous people. Now, the police appear to be doing it again....

The University of California – Berkeley College Republicans staged an anti-affirmative action bake sale this week on UCB’s Sproul Plaza to protest Senate Bill 185, that would re-introduce affirmative action in the state of California. The bill recently passed in the legislature and awaits Governor Jerry Brown’s signature or veto. At the bake sale, white men had to pay the most - $2, people of color got various discounts, black men were to be charged 75 cents, and all women got 25 cents off....
