Vote Yes on Prop 79! The prescription drug industry is spending $80 million to blitz California with TV ads for their alternative prescription drug plan. But their plan isn't even enforceable. Its completely voluntary for the companies. We don't have their mega-millions, but we have people power behind Prop 79--the real prescription drug discount plan supported by consumer, senior and labor groups in California....

I went to the planning board meeting on the Megaplex the other night, and the only people really supporting that thing are the business people and a handful of their friends. Everyone who spoke out against the project was an average resident. One guy who seemed to just be a regular guy supporting the Megaplex, let it slip that he had actually worked on the development of the project! The city officials seem completely bought off. At least one newspaper (Alameda Journal, apparently part of the Contra Costa Times, which explained that it wasn't time to play the blame game after Katrina) has now teamed up with the City of Alameda and the Megaplex supporters to try to sway uninformed residents to agree to a 7 screen Megaplex under the guise that it is the only way to 'Save the Theater,' the existing historic theater that locals want to keep....

Bay Area reproductive rights groups protested John Roberts’ nomination to be Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court as congressional hearings about his confirmation loom. Group responsible for keeping Operation Rescue out of the Bay Area in the eighties also asked Senator Dianne Feinstein to pose their questions to Roberts and hold federal government officials accountable for appointing justices who will defend the rights of all, as well as demand justice for the victims of Hurricane Katrin...
