Chronicle Writes Conflicting Stories on King Day Breakfast
The Chronicle has recently devoted considerable space to stories about faked memoirs (James Frey’s bestseller) and authors (J.T. Leroy) who do not really exist. It’s now time for the paper to explain how it wrote two stories on consecutive days that completely contradicted each other. On Tuesday, Carla Marinucci reported that the “New” Arnold Schwarzenegger got a “surprisingly warm welcome” from the heavily Democratic breakfast crowd. But on Wednesday, the Chronicle’s Matier & Ross reported t...

Berrnie Sanders speaking in Marin January 21, 2006
Bob Meyers of the Ruth Group writes: Bernie Sanders’ campaign to replace retiring Vermont Senator (and fellow independent) Jim Jeffords is the most important race of all in 2006. To explain Why Bernie? I was about to write a few paragraphs placing him the tradition of senators “Fighting Bob” La Follette (champion of the working poor and Bernie’s hero), feisty Wayne Morse (who cast one of two votes against Gulf of Tonkin resolution), J.W. Fulbright (who called our attention to the “Arrogance o...

Corruption at Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA)
Corruption at Golden Gate National Recreation Area is nothing new but at long last an Inspector General has taken on the corruption and exposed the tip of the iceberg. It is time Brian O'Neill and the rest watch out because there is much to reveal and most of it is ugly. The Presidio was better off under Sixth Army and the Presidio of San Francisco. The Presidio Trust and the NPS is out to screw the government and millions of dollars have been wasted....

Schwarzenegger's budget: up with prisons, down with communities
Sacramento - In his budget released today, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger stuck to an old script: increasing funding for the state's massively troubled prison system. Elected on a platform that promised to "blow up boxes," the governor continues to fall in line with expensive and ineffective "tough on crime" policies despite widespread voter frustration at pouring ever more resources into a failed prison system....

Mayor Gavin Newsom has much to attain with timelines and recent polls mean nothing much.
Mayor Gavin Newsom has much to attain and the recent polls mean nothing much. Rachael Gordon keep tooting her horn and focusing on elements many dubious in nature and often biased. When Gavin was elected he did not get a mandate. Matt could have won but the for the thousands of Absentee Votes a ploy that has come to haunt good government in San Francisco. A ploy that will be used to get rid of corrupt politicians and those that misuse the system. Polls mean nothing - action mean everything....

San Francisco Faces Major Battles in 2006
After 2005 focused on the Governor’s statewide ballot initiatives, San Francisco faces some critical local issues in 2006. Should the city continue to approve luxury condos in exchange for affordable housing and other community benefits, or is this trade-off not worth the resulting gentrification? Will the Mayor and Supes continue balancing the budget by cutting services and raising fees, or instead seek voter approval for new taxes? Debate over these key issues has a citywide focus, but is a...

San Francisco has 11 Districts and one of them District 10 needs leadership. Sophina Maxwell the current District 10 Supervisor has been a huge failure. District 10 has over 40% unemployment, Black on Black violence has increased in District 10 and contributed to lack of Safety and Health. Poor folks in Public Housing are treated like second class citizens while Mayor Gavin Newsom goes once in a while to shoot hoops.
