High above the homes of their victims, eviction lawyers dined yesterday in the posh Carnelian room, located on 52nd floor of the Bankers Club with sweeping views of the City. The luncheon was part of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s seminar on legal developments regarding the Ellis Act. The guests of honor were eviction profiteers Andrew Zacks and Andy Sirken. About the time entrees were served, recent Ellis Act evictee Jose Morales spoke up, and suddenly this event got interesting....

Make Yourself Seen and Heard to the UC Regents!
The UC Regents will be meeting at UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Campus on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov 16th-17th. Wednesday the Regents will be voting to raise student fees another 8% ($492). Thursday they will be voting to cut financial aid. The regents meeting agenda is here.
On Thursday, November 17th, there will be a March to Stop the Fee Hike! People will meet in UC Berkeley's Upper Sproul at 9am.

On November 5, a small group of animal rights activists demonstrated in front of the KFC on Mission St., a busy road which is also Highway 1 in Santa Cruz. The number of customers in the restaurant quickly dwindled and passing motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, KFC customers and an employee that encountered the protesters were either very supportive of the demonstration or willing to listen to and learn from the protesters.

This is the press release that was sent out on Saturday night right after the demonstration against the Minuteman Project. The Sacramento Bee reported that 600 people counter-demonstrated against the Minutemen and only 200 showed up at their rally on the Capitol's west steps. I hope to do a longer update later today or tomorrow morning. Cres and Scott are trying to get people to attend the arraignment on Tuesday; for more information call them at the numbers listed below....
