143 million pounds of recalled meat may be just the beginning. The story below calls into question the practices of a Fresno meat processing plant where workers say downer cows, tumors, and abscesses are being ground into hamburger. The general manager of the Fresno plant says the workers are wrong and that they would never do anything like that....

On February 24th, police broke through the front door of a home on the 700 block of Riverside Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz at about 10pm. The Santa Cruz Police Department, UCPD, Santa Cruz County Sheriffs, and a Park Ranger all participated in the raid which took place after police officers spent the day monitoring the house and looking inside windows, including while a young women was taking a shower. No Lion House is the new campaign by Citizens Lobbying for Animals in Zoos. The organization was founded by 13 year old Justin Barker who in now 26 and a San Francisco resident.
The campaign is going to ensure that San Francisco closes its outdated exhibit for good. "Glass walls and electric fences is not enough. Bigger steps must be taken to ensure that these animals get the care they deserve and that the public is not in danger"...

Microfinance lender kiva.org has no policy in place that defends against animal rights abuses. They are currently loaning money to assist a cockfighting business in Peru.
