textCan big media stop Ron Dellums from becoming mayor of Oakland? by Paul Rockwell, SF Bay View (reposted)
It is a rare moment when a beleaguered city gets an opportunity to elect a statesman. Ron Dellums, a practical visionary, is one of the most respected congresspersons in the world. Remembered for his role in helping to end apartheid in South Africa, for stopping production of the heinous MX missile, he is returning home to Oakland, a city he served for over 30 years. Parishioners are singing an African-American spiritual, “Let Not This Harpist Pass.”...

textBay View Voters’ Guide by SF Bay View (reposted)
If ever you needed a reason to vote, consider what happened Tuesday at San Francisco’s City Hall: Seven of the 11 Supervisors voted to give control of Bayview Hunters Point to the notorious Redevelopment Agency and its big developer buddies. The good news is that when we vote in November, we’ll replace one of those seven, our own District 10 Supervisor, with one of the smartest, strongest, truest women I know, Marie Harrison....

textThe Desperate Misinformation From Prop. D's Opponents by Patrick Monette-Shaw
San Francisco's leading gay and lesbian newspaper, the Bay Area Reporter, published May 25 two pro-and-con op-ed pieces concerning Proposition D on San Francisco's June 2006 ballot that are instructive. The "con" argument was riddled with misinformation designed to scare voters. With SEIU Local 790's help, Prop. D opponents are falsely using myths, wrongly claiming 300 patients at Laguna Honda Hospital face forced discharge, costing the City $27 million annually, if Prop. D passes...

textSF City Emergency Services detrimental to the constituents of San Francisco by Francisco Da Costa
Our Office Emergency Serivices (OES) are in very bad shape and if the Big One strikes we all will be in deep trouble. Our SF 911 Services need help. Our hospitals are prone to crumbling down. The 900 miles of sewer pipes and 1900 miles of clean drinking water pipes all over 75 years old and leaking. We have no Helicoper and lack good communications with the National Guard in a Emergency Situation. We have no SOUND communication system that works....
