In a ruling issued in a case argued by Lambda Legal, the California Supreme Court said that if businesses in California provide benefits to married couples they must also extend them on equal terms to same-sex couples who are registered domestic partners....

Equality California's sponsored legislation will reach a pivotal moment next week when the Legislature returns from summer recess August 15. The Senate Appropriations Committee will likely hear Assembly Bill 849, the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act, authored by Assemblymember Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles), and supported by more than 30 other co-authors....
