Lungren's Scabrous Town Hall
On March 20 the third anniversary of the Iraq war Dan Lungren held a town hall meeting in Rancho Cordova California to talk mainly of immigration reform. Upon receiving the flyer outlining his meeting it immediately felt xenophobic, nationalistic, and reeked of racism. On Wednesday, March 29th, hundreds of students from Santa Cruz High, Santa Cruz Community, Habor, Aptos, Soquel and Cesar Chavez (Barrios Unidos) left class at 10:00am to meet at the Clock Tower and march to the Santa Cruz County Courthouse. On March 25th, between 2,500 to 3,000 members of the Watsonville community joined Gold Star Families for Peace member Fernando Suarez del Solar, and Iraq War resister Pablo Paredes for the 5 mile Watsonville leg of their 241 mile peace march from Tijuana to the Mission District in San Francisco. Along with chants for peace, the marchers were taking a stand against the draconian anti-immigrant bill HR4437. Some say the march was the largest in Watsonville's history....
