AUDIO: KFC Protest in Santa Cruz 2-12-05
About two dozen people gathered on Saturday 2-12-05 at the KFC on Mission St. in Santa Cruz to protest KFC's continued failure to put a stop to abuses against chickens taking place in the factories and slaughterhouses that provide chicken to KFC. Chickens are routinely scalded alive, beaten and kicked. In addition, the chickens are kept in crowded filthy conditions and pumped full of hormones which frequently results in their inability to stand up or flap their wings.

Kick the Colonel out of Santa Cruz
On February 12, animal rights activists protested at the KFC on Mission St. (Hwy 1) in Santa Cruz to call attention to the horrendous practices of KFC chicken suppliers. About 25 people and two chickens marched from the health food store on Laurel and Mission to the KFC a half mile down the road....

Whistleblower Accuses Oakland Animal Shelter of Systemic Abuse
A former employee at the Oakland Animal Shelter has detailed what she says are systemic abuses by shelter management. The list of wrongdoings include euthanizing dogs that were cleared for adoption, euthanizing dogs without sedatives and in one case mistakenly leaving a live dog in a freezer in a barrel with dead dogs....

The Magazine section of the Sunday, February 6, Washington Post has a lengthy fluff piece on canned hunting, headed "They Shoot Zebras, Don't They? These days, you don't have to go to the African veldt to hunt gazelle, kudu and zebra. Set your sights on Texas." (Page W21) It includes a couple of quotes from animal rights activists -- a couple of lines in a 4,300 piece on the sport....
