The workers of Gallo in Sonoma County have been fighting to improve working conditions, making strides to overcome an eight year drought in wage increases. However, while some Gallo workers now earn $8.18 an hour, have 8 days of vacation and receive health benefits for themselves and for their families, the majority do not. Those workers who have been denied these benefits are hired through farm labor contractors (FLCs), which are third party agencies. This contract loophole denies 75 percent...

On Saturday, August 27th, members of the San Francisco Day Labor Program will say goodbye to two trailers at Franklin Square Park where they have operated for 15 years, and will inaugurate their new Workers Center at 3358 Cesar Chavez Street. At least one northern California labor council has already started its special election campaign activity. On July 30, precinct walkers gathered at the South Bay Labor Council’s San Jose headquarters before fanning out to talk with union families about what’s at stake in the Nov. 8 special election called by Gov.
