Prop. 73: What's been gained by losing?
Prop. 73 failed ...but how comforted can we be by that? It's possible that it was voted down because it was seen as a Schwarnegger initiative ( not that it really was..it came from Evangelical Christians) and NOT because Californians were really alarmed at the idea of women losing their rights....The Christian right is still out there, and they have big plans......

In speaking out against Proposition 73 throughout California, we’re often asked: “Why should Latino families oppose Proposition 73?” “Aren’t they much too traditional or religious to get involved with this controversial issue?” “What difference will it make?” It’s clear that public perceptions about Latinas and Latinos continue to remain fueled by myths that bear no resemblance to the real conditions facing our community....

Proposition 73 would set up a "hit list" of California judges
California's November 8 special election ballot is led by Proposition 73, a "parental notification" initiative aimed at making it more difficult for young women to get abortions. As part of that difficulty, it creates bureaucratic red tape for abortion providers and seeks to intimidate judges, who would have the power to authorize a young woman to get an abortion without telling her parents about...

Bush Picks Conservative Judge Alito Who Endorsed Abortion Restrictions for Supreme Court
President Bush nominated federal appeals judge Samuel Alito Jr. to the Supreme Court Monday, just four days after Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination. The 55-year-old Alito is widely seen as a judicial conservative who has been nicknamed "Scalito" for his philosophical similarities to Justice Antonin Scalia. In 1991, Alito backed a Pennsylvania law that required women to inform their husbands before they sought an abortion. His support came in the form of a dissenting vote in the ...

Sexist article on Counterpunch
COCKburn exposes his sexism is this piece. What a jerk. Calling them 'divas.' Whatever they are, describing what happens between men every day of the week as 'mud wrestling' just because it happens between two women is complete bs and exposes what he's really made of. He can say it's all fun and games, but he has a history of trashing other stuff also, trashing anyone asking questions about the vote machines being rigged or whether the Bush Admin allowed 9/11 to happen for their own benef...
