textRIVER: Latest update on the current situation in Iraq and attitudes of Iraqis by River, weblog of Iraqi girl in Iraq
Aqila Al-Hashimi was buried today in the holy city of Najaf, in the south. Her funeral procession was astounding. Rumor has it that she was supposed to be made Iraq’s ambassadress to the UN. There are still no leads to her attackers’ identities… somehow people seem to think that Al-Chalabi and gang are behind this attack just like they suspect he might have been behind the Jordanian Embassy attack....

textInternational Direct Action -- The Spanish Revolution to the Palestinian Intifada by MARK SCHNEIDER, counterpunch.org
The US government annually spends billions of dollars in economic aid to prop up the Israeli apartheid state. My state's (Colorado) biggest employer, Lockheed-Martin, is one among many companies earning fantastic profits from the F-16 bombers raining death on Bethlehem, Nablus, and Jenin. Caterpillar Inc. grows rich off the sale of the 30-foot-tall, Orwellian, D-9 bulldozers that Israel uses to demolish hundreds of Palestinian homes....

textThe Obvious Solution -- Give Iraq Back to the Arabs by MICHAEL S. LADAH, counterpunch.org
The Iraqis do not want us or any other foreign force on their soil. The Arab world does not want us in Iraq nor do they want their old European occupiers who colonized their land for over half a century. The Moslem world can not withstand the sight of western imperialists dictating what goes on in the Moslem world and our European allies continue to believe that we shouldn't be there in the first place....

textROBERT FISK: Palestinian, intellectual, and fighter, Edward Said dies at age 67 by Robert Fisk, The Independent
...he had even less patience with American television anchors. "When I went on air," he told me once, "the Israeli consul in New York said I was a terrorist and wanted to kill him. And what did the anchorwoman say to me? 'Mr Said, why do you want to kill the Israeli consul?' How do you reply to such garbage?" Edward was a rare bird. He was both an icon and an iconoclast....

textJeff Halper: Two-state solution at this point would probably mean a Palestiinian Bantustan by Jeff Halper interviewed, zmag.org
...the danger in being for a Palestinian state is that if you don’t understand the control dimensions, then you are actually agitating for a Bantustan. I mean, Sharon also wants a Palestinian state; he wants a state that is completely controlled by Israel. So if you only look at territory and you don’t look at the issue of control, you end up advocating a Bantustan....

textRiver: Selling of Iraq. Foreign companies make millions, Iraqis left in debt by River
Major reconstruction contracts are being given to the huge companies, like Bechtel and Halliburton, for millions of dollars. These companies, in turn, employ the Iraqis in the following way: they first ask for bids on specific projects. The Iraqi company with the lowest bid is selected to do the work. The Iraqi company gets *exactly* what it bid from the huge conglomerate, which is usually only a fraction of the original contract price. Hence, projects that should cost $1,000,000 end up costi...

textJennifer Loewenstein: Resistance And Collaboration. by Jennifer Loewenstein, zmag.org
Since when, I have to ask myself, has it been acceptable for only one side of a conflict to have weapons? Since when has "self-defense" been defined as the actions of a military superpower against the very people it oppresses and seeks to destroy? How long will we rail against the use of violence by those who are subjected to it repeatedly and in every conceivable form every day of their lives? The struggle for Palestine has gone far beyond a quarrel over land and property rights: M...

textRIVER:'A Modern-Day Fairy Tale.' Iraqi girl discusses the lie used to decimate her country by River, pseudonym for Iraqi girl in Iraq
Like a mythical fairy, weapons of mass destruction have vanished from Iraq and reappeared in Syria. No doubt once we obliterate Syria and find no weapons, we will be informed how this elusive fairy found its way to Lebanon. After razing Lebanon and finding no trace of our highly evanescent fairy, we will be told of how she was so cruelly kidnapped and taken to Iran. As fairies often tend to be, this nuclear fairy is of course non-existant in the Middle East -- except in one country, Israel......
