Eviction is the word of the day in New Orleans. Many landlords have taken to throwing tenants personal belonings on the sidewalk after an eviction notice has been tacked on their door for 5 days. Under normal conditions 5 days seems a little harsh if there is a lease involved; but in post Katrina New Orleans 5 days don't mean shit.
The most optimistic number I've heard for the current population of the city is 20%. that means 80% of the city will be unaware of the eviction notice going up ...

How Many Are Missing and Dead After Katrina? Three Months After the Hurricane ...
Questions still remain over how many people died after Hurricane Katrina as well as the whereabouts of all of the evacuees. The official death toll stands at about 1,300 but thousands of people are still reported missing. One newspaper reported the whereabouts of 6,600 people reported missing have not been determined. We speak with New Orleans evacuee Leah Hodges, who is still missing her brother, and Tina Susman, a Newsday reports the number of missing include over 1,300 children....

Second disaster looming for millions of Kashmir earthquake victims

Eviction Moratorium Stalls Rush of Evictions in New Orleans
As we pull up to the apartment complex in a neighborhood East of New Orleans, all Diane's belongs are being thrown from her second story window. A worker in a forklift hauls her belongings to the street, dumping Diane's lifelong belongings on the curb. This is a common sight in New Orleans where evictions are increasing and what little rights tenants have are being ignored....

50,000 Katrina evacuees without permanent housing
More than 50,000 people are still living in hotel rooms three months since the devastating consequences of Hurricane Katrina displaced as many as one million people. The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently funding hotel stays for the evacuees who have not been able to find housing. After the next round of deadlines, FEMA will no longer pay the hotel bills....
