The California State Assembly voted 41-31 on May 29 for Assembly Bill 1806, the Fish Rescue Plans Bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to protect the declining fisheries in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The bill was originally set to be heard by the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee on June 10, but the hearing has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, June 24. Judge Henry C. Breithaupt ruled Monday that Trimet Bus Company's refusal of a “political” advertisement urging PacifiCorp ratepayers to support Klamath River dam removal was unconstitutional, on both state and federal grounds. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 :Utah Phillips, the legendary folk musician and peace and labor activist, has died. He passed away in his sleep in his Nevada City home Friday night of congestive heart failure. He was 73 years old. A memorial service is being planned for Sunday....

A dedicated group of volunteers completed setting up a stunning display of the human costs of the Iraq war and occupation on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. Many thanks go to all those who helped up set up 120,000 flags representing people from Iraq and the U.S. killed in Bush's war and occupation.
