New Orleans: Jazz Funeral for close of abusive Tallulah juvenile prison
On Saturday Sept 8, 2001 a multicultural group of about 80-90 people gathered to participate in a Jazz Funeral calling for the Correctional Center for Youth to be closed and urging rehabilitation instead of incarceration for those in the youth prison. The mood of the march was upbeat, particularly considering the gravity of the situation at Tallulah....

Police Abuses at Sacramento Critical Mass
Sacramento, the State Capitol. Two groups came from the Bay Area, one by bicycle (lead by Assembly candidate and Berkeley City Council Member Kriss Worthington, and one by Amtrak) to help protect and defend the efforts at holding a Critical Mass community bicycle ride there, after doing political groundwork to help ensure that police would stop the ongoing abuses (see previous stories). No such luck....
