Nearly all of the watersheds on the North Coast have been damaged by logging operations, but perhaps none have received as much attention from state agencies as five of those subjected to logging by Pacific Lumber -- Freshwater Creek, Elk River, Stitz Creek, Bear Creek, and Jordan Creek.

Earth First has developed some of the most sophisticated tree-sits in history, this new design uses fir poles from slash piles to make support "ribs" for tree platforms tied on with ropes & webbing, scavenged plywood and other scraps will then be screwed on top. This redwood is scheduled to be cut by the Pacific Lumber company, luckily it is being occupied by members of "The Natural Guard" in a platform 220 feet up. But they need help to keep it standing!...

The federal and state government are at this moment releasing a letter to
Pacific Lumber Company (PALCO) of Humboldt County, California that allows
them to begin cutting seven hundred acres of the largest unprotected
redwoods in the world. Called the E stands, these are the best
unprotected trees of the 211,000 acres PALCO owns, the creme de la creme:
trees 15' in diameter, some over 2000 years old, some groves perfect,
unentered, no stumps- the forest primeval....

Of course, the U.S. electoral system is corrupt. Yet, occassionally there's something worth supporting on the ballot that actually has a chance to win. California's Proposition 40, on the March 5th ballot, is one such instance. So if you're not registered to vote, get to it!; and Vote Yes on Prop 40....

Pacific Lumber has pulled their logging plan (THP 1-01-352 HUM) for Allen Creek, one of 13 Marbled Murrelet Conservation Areas put off limits to logging for a period of 50 years in agreements contained in the Headwaters Deal....
