In protest against the latest homeless crackdown and the newest Downtown Ordinance expansions, Human Rights Organization activist Bernard Klitzner will be challenging the "Sit on a public bench for more than an hour, get a ticket" law.
Meet at the sidewalk in front of Rosie McCann's on Pacific Avenue and Lincoln St. Bernard will also be speaking at Santa Cruz City Council shortly after 3 PM today on the issue....

A month or two ago Lather Wieland was ticketed by Sgt. Bush for violation of MC 9.50.020--Conduct on Public Property--for setting in motion the large brown pendulum art sculpture in the long planter in front of Rosie McCann's and the Pacific Trading Company. He faced a fine of between $100 and $300 for this "crime" of pushing the pendulum. Lather lives in his vehicles with his wife Alice and their dog....

Congressman Sam Farr, a long time advocate of normalized relations with Cuba, will be traveling this week with President Obama to a meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS) where admission of Cuba to membership will be a topic of discussion and controversy.
Rep. Farr will be presenting a letter to Obama signed by 46 U.S. Representatives urging the president to to take steps toward restoring better relations with Cuba....

As soon as he heard his car alarm blare and saw the orange glow through his bedroom window, UCLA neuroscientist J. David Jentsch knew that his fears had come true.
His 2006 Volvo, parked next to his Westside house, had been set ablaze and destroyed in an early morning attack March 7. Jentsch had become the latest victim in a series of violent incidents targeting University of California scientists who use animals in biomedical research....

this is official announcement that submissions for sticks and stones #2 will be accepted until may 1st, 2009. this is so that it can come out in time for the santa cruz anarchist convergence (santacruzanarchist.org), aka "hella anarchy week." contributions of any sort are welcome, again the idea is to have a printed forum and mouthpiece for the diverse voices of resistance in this region, an "anti-sentinel" if you will. and hopefully much more....
