The Sindicato Mexicano de Electricistas continues its two-year old struggle against the anti-labor Calderon regime in Mexico. The government of Felipe Calderon locked out 44,000 members of the SME in a move to privatize the public power company Luz y Fuerza. Our protest in San Francisco was to demonstrate our solidarity with SME's megamarcha from the Angel de la Independencia to the Zocalo on Wednesday, November 23. We want to distinguish the fact that Community safety does not come from a place of “security” or actions based off of the fear or danger of something. Rather it is based in the acts of caring for and respecting the dignity (desires, dreams, histories, struggles, and needs) of all peoples “below and to the left”....

Demonstrators held a vigil for democracy and human rights September 29, 2011, at the Honduran Consulate in San Francisco. They tried unsuccessfully to deliver a letter to consular officials expressing their concerns .
School of the Americas Watch-SF and the Bay Area Latin America Solidarity Coalition sponsored the vigil....
