"Jerry Brown has refused to start turning off the oil spigot as donations and lobbying dollars continue to flowfrom Big Oil,” said Liza Tucker, Consumer Advocate for Consumer Watchdog. “It’s time for his actions to match his words decrying the existential threat of climate change. Politicians should say no to money from Big Oil and Brown should say no to any new permits for Big Oil drilling and other infrastructure.”...

In a major conflict of interest, the same Western States Petroleum Association President who led a campaign to stop the bill last year also chaired the privately-funded Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) Initiative Blue Ribbon Task Force to create so-called “marine protected areas” in Southern California. The “marine protected areas” created under the leadership of her and other task force members with major conflicts of interest fail to protect the ocean from offshore oil drilling, fracking, ...

The Monterey County Superior Court recently ruled on Measure Z. It let the ban on fracking and acidizing stand, for now. But it overturned two key parts of Measure Z (phase out of wastewater injection and ban on new oil wells). Please sign this petition (with your city and state info) and urge the Monterey County Supervisors to appeal the court's decision: https://www.change.org/p/supervisors-appeal-the-court-decision-on-measure-z...

Michael Brodsky, the attorney for the Save the California Delta Alliance, was encouraged by today’s decision by the California Water Fix hearing team.
“It’s a recognition that this is a very serious situation and that the ultimate outcome of the hearings could be irrevocably tainted if they don’t take some action on the ethical violations that have taken place,” said Brodsky. “They gave the Department of Water Resources until Friday to respond. It might have been better to REQUIRE DWR to r...

Osha Meserve, one of the attorneys for the protestants, explained, ”We’re asking the water board to look at the scope of the exparte communications and the implications of those communications for the water rights hearing. We don’t think part 2 of the hearing should proceed until this critical investigation has been completed, since the entire hearing may have been compromised.”

“We urge the Governor to demonstrate his leadership by making his actions match his rhetoric on the need to stop burning fossil fuels to avoid an existential threat. Brown’s record on oil drilling offshore and on shore is one of expansion," said Liza Tucker, consumer advocate for Consumer Watchdog. "That is no longer acceptable. Brown should ban all drilling activity offshore, cut off any planned new oil and gas drilling on shore, and ban fracking outright."...

There “is no easy answer” why the smelt declined even in a record water year when biologists would have expected a rebound, according to Dr. Peter B Moyle, Distinguished Professor, Emeritus, at the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology, Center for Watershed Sciences, UC Davis.
“The answer is that we really don't know. The best explanation I can think of is that numbers are so low that an increase (or decrease) in the index would not be detectable with the FMT sampling,” he...
