A variety of groups participated in a demonstration against a recruitment table by the Marines at the UC Berkeley Career Fair. The fair didn't have any tables by other controversial recruiters such as the NSA, CIA or FBI. Leadership was provided by the Berkeley Stop the War Coalition. A loud counterprotest was set up by the Berkeley College Republicans, and perhaps 3 members of the Protest Warriors who could be identified....

Around one hundred protesters gathered on the UC Berkeley campus to protest US military recruitment at the UCB career fair. The ASUC (which manages the student union where the career fair took place) had voted to not allow military recuitment due to the military's bigotted policies towards gays and lesbians, but the university invited the military to the fair anyways investing in a large police presence and screening of all students trying to attend the career fair. The Protest Warrior group will be joining the Berkeley College Republicans in counterprotesting a protest of students who will be demonstrating against the Marines table at the career fair. The police have already set up barricades around the student union and aren't letting people without student ID in, so the noise action should be in Sproul plaza, where thousands of students pass to get to class...

On Friday, April 22nd, a judge in a federal court will decide about a motion from the city of Berkeley for summary judgement against Steve DeCaprio. Steve, in turn, has moved for a preliminary injunction against Berkeley, as well as summary judgement (the court would then judge based on what has been submitted, without any further proceedings). The hearing will take place in Courtroom 2 at 10am, in the Federal Courthouse in Oakland, which is located at 1301 Clay Street, 94612....

Aimee Allison has come a long way from the 17-year-old kid at Antioch High who joined the Army Reserves to get an education. The 35-year-old Stanford graduate and Green Party candidate for Oakland’s District 2 write-in election (to replace a councilmember who quit) spoke at a recent Berkeley High military recruitment teach-in, explaining how she joined the Army....
