“We’ve made huge strides in controlling pollution from pipes, but toxic runoff from agriculture operations, the urban landscape and industrial facilities still plagues our coasts, bays, and rivers,” said Aminzadeh. “It is a low profile, high-impact problem that degrades the California way of life and our state’s ocean and tourist-based economy.”...

On October 30, 2012 there was a protest against Nudity Ban in San Francisco in front of the City Hall. After the rally a handful of naked people marched down market Street with a marching band and sings of classical nude paintings and other signs such as "The Only Wiener that doesn't belong in San Francisco" - with a photo of Scott Wiener crossed out, "Nude is Not Lewd", "War is obscene, not nudity", "Nude is Natural" and a classical painting called "The Origin of the World" depicting a body ...

Since we now have no school buses, the school children of San Francisco have to pay to go to school on city buses as they usually do not go to neighborhood schools, and they are often checked by Muni police, and fined if they cannot show proof of payment. Federal funds are now available for either free passes for schoolchildren or anything else Muni wants, but 4 supervisors: Wiener, Ferrell and Chu, do not want free passes for schoolchildren and need to be told to change their vote to Yes....

This is a delayed response to Kolumbus Day/Anti-Colonialism activities. There seems to be an underlying analysis behind demos like these that these are positions of the radical minority. This piece argues that taking up an anti-imperialist analysis that recognizes who benefits from imperialism and who does not and openly promoting that analysis is much needed. The never ending attempts at populism among an oppressor nation do nothing to challenge the daily violence committed by this country....

On October 6th SFPD attacked and provoked an anti-Columbus day march that gathered to give remembrance to the genocide and colonialism wrought upon the native peoples of the Americas. SFPD targeted marchers because of their political message, and attacked and arrested twenty anti-colonial activists after a hasty and confusing dispersal order....

October 10th, 2012 was an active day in the Bay Area. A group creating a Golden Gate Ecology Center through direct action began to build a greenhouse of all recycled and repurposed materials. A group of activists opened an empty building as a home for the homeless in San Francisco. Occupy the Farm hosted a visioning meeting to design the future of the Gill Tract, a piece of land in Albany that the organization reclaimed and turned into a community farm earlier this year. Occupy Oakland ce...

Labor prevailed in the litmus test vote at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on October 9, 2012 to reinstate Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi with 4 of 11 votes, with Christina Olague (District 5 Fillmore and Haight-Ashbury), Jane Kim (District 6 Tenderloin, South of Market), David Campos (District 9 Mission, Bernal Heights) and John Avalos (District 11 Excelsior, Ingleside) when the capitalist class mayor Ed Lee needed 9 of the 11 votes to prevail....

What the hell is a war criminal doing in a San Francisco high school? And who is responsible for this abomination?...
Posted: Tue, Oct 9, 2012 8:09pm PDT
The public persecution of Ross Mirkarimi and Eliana Lopez is the latest attack in a reactionary coup. In his commitment to progressive principles/programs and marginalized, impoverished constituencies and by alarming the City's political machine and 1% financial powers - much more than for his arrogance and misdemeanor - Mirkarimi and his family are public targets, paying an extreme political and personal price. Now the question before SF Supervisors is: do they have the backbone and integrit...

On the weekend of Oct. 6-7, 2012, the ANSWER Coalition joined with many other organizations in cities across the country and around the world to call for an end to war and occupation in Afghanistan. These actions marked the 11th anniversary of the U.S./NATO war in Afghanistan. Contrary to countless statements from Democratic and Republican administrations alike claiming “great progress,” etc., the occupying forces are no closer to achieving their aims than when they launched the war. In ord...
